Medical ASSISTANCE

A Vicious Cycle of Illness and Neglect

Prisoners in Cameroon are caught in a vicious cycle. The daily reality of prison life, including:

  • Malnutrition: Inmates often receive insufficient and poor-quality food, leaving them susceptible to a host of illnesses.
  • Poor Sanitation: Dirty cells, limited access to clean water, and inadequate toilet facilities contribute to the spread of infectious diseases like cholera and tuberculosis.
  • Overcrowding: Many prisons operate at several times their intended capacity, with inmates crammed into tiny spaces. This makes social distancing impossible and accelerates the transmission of contagious diseases.
  • Physical and Psychological Torture: The use of physical and psychological abuse leaves lasting trauma and severe health issues that are often left untreated.

This dire environment, coupled with a lack of access to proper medical care, means that a simple cold can escalate into a serious respiratory infection, and a minor cut can lead to a deadly infection. Many prisoners who enter the system in good health emerge with chronic illnesses, if they emerge at all.

Our Response: A Lifeline of Medical Care

Recognizing this critical need, we are committed to providing a lifeline of medical assistance to those who have been forgotten. Our mission is to ensure that every prisoner has a right to health and dignity. Our efforts include:

  • On-the-ground Medical Teams: We deploy medical professionals to prisons to conduct health screenings, provide basic treatment, and identify those with serious or chronic conditions.
  • Providing Essential Supplies: We distribute essential medical supplies, including medicine, antiseptic, wound dressings, and hygiene products, which are often unavailable in the prison infirmaries.
  • Facilitating Hospital Transfers: For severe cases, we work to secure and fund the transfer of critically ill prisoners to outside hospitals, a service that is often not provided by the prison administration.
  • Advocacy and Education: We advocate for improved prison conditions and work to educate both inmates and prison staff on basic health and hygiene practices to help prevent the spread of disease.

Our work is a direct response to the heartbreaking reality that prisoners are often left to suffer in silence. We hear stories of untreated injuries, chronic pain, and preventable deaths. Our medical assistance is often the only hope for a sick prisoner.

A Call for Compassion: We Need Your Help

The need is immense, and our resources are limited. The health of a prisoner is a reflection of the humanity of a society. Your support can help us continue our vital work. Every donation, no matter the size, provides a glimmer of hope and a chance for survival for a person who is suffering.

Please consider donating to our cause. Your contribution can provide the medicine that saves a life, the antiseptic that prevents an infection, or the transportation that gets a critically ill person the care they desperately need.

Together, we can fight this health crisis and bring a measure of compassion and care to those living in the most difficult circumstances. Your support is not just a donation; it’s an act of humanity that affirms the value of every life.
