Origin:

The ReleaseThem Campaign was conceived as a project to give visibility to the plight of Prisoners of Conscience in Cameroon, a country where arbitrary arrest and detention has become the norm with citizen not speaking up for fear of arrest or be disappeared.

The Campaign is supported by other civil society organizations such as; The Southern Cameroons European Women e.V., Victoria Relief Foundation, MwanAfrika Education Foundation.

Our Mission

Galvanize National and international support to Pressurize the Cameroon Government to stop the gross human rights abuses on citizens they arrest arbitrarily and account for all persons who have been arrested and whose whereabouts are unknown. In the case of complete disappearances, the responsible parties must be held accountable

 

Objectives

  • Contribute to the end of gross human rights violation inflicted on citizens who are arbitrarily arrested(tortured during forcefull arrests)

 

  • Contribute to the end of the violation of the rights of prisoners of conscience in the Cameroon prison by speaking up,breaking the silence and  holding perpetrators accountable (daily physical and psychological torture, no food or they are fed with food not fit for human consumption, overcrowded prisons, degraded prisons, tried under the civil law system which is foreign to them, and not the common law system, tried in military courts, Prisoners locked up in underground bunkers,  tried in the french language, a language they don’t understand, imposed arbitrary and absurd sentences with trumped up charges, inhumane conditions in prison, etc 

 

  • Expose the situation of Refugees refouled to Cameroon against their wish and against the IHRL that protects refugees be sent back to Nigeria
